Barriers to employment opportunities

In France, people living with cognitive or mental disabilities face stigmas that make it difficult for them to gain employment in most work spaces. Those who are working with disabilities are limited to specialised social health work structures that give them little autonomy in the workplace, and monotonous tasks don’t help develop their skills.  

Enhanced workforce inclusivity

Fonds de Dotation Les Extraordinaires helps uplift people with disabilities by providing a working environment that increases their autonomy, responsibility and skill development. People with disabilities can work and socialise with others in a mainstream work environment where their independence is celebrated and encouraged.

Fonds de Dotation Les Extraordinaires runs two inclusive restaurants in Paris, and Nantes called Le Reflet. The restaurants employ 20 staff, including 13 people with mental disabilities. The restaurants are designed to ensure everyone can work and flourish, regardless of their talents or vulnerabilities. More than just restaurants, Le Reflet offers a new perspective on differences and inclusion.

Their Association, Les Extraordinaires, also encourages and supports other organisations in France to create their own inclusive restaurants. They help to spread awareness about inclusivity with campaigns targeted towards the general public and employers.
